Throwback Tuesday: Enabled Living – Newham Business of the Year 2021

In the run up to this year’s Newham Business Awards, we had the opportunity to catch up with last year’s Business of the Year winners, Enabled Living:

First I would like to thank Newham Chamber of Commerce for recognising Enabled Living as Newham’s business of the year 2021. This really was the boost we all needed following the previous couple of years. We were truly blessed to have a staff team who pulled together when the going got tough – and tough it was! Our amazing team combined with our health and wellbeing approach were the two things that allowed our business to be successful and sustainable in equal measure. To get up on that stage in November 2021 and be publically recognised was really massive for all in the Enabled Living family.

You cannot underestimate the difference it makes to the team to be recognised. Not only does this give a boost to everyone’s moral but also makes the team feel proud to come to work every day. This award enhanced our profile in the job market, so, more good people wanted to work for Enabled Living and, most importantly, we retained our amazing and dedicated team.

The award has also helped us to build opportunities, both with growing or sustaining our current partnerships or opening doors to build new ones. This award really helped to raise the awareness of our brand as well as our uniqueness. We believe we offer something different in our sector and it was great to find other organisations both locally and nationally who recognise that and want to reach out and connect.

But finally this award enabled us to raise the profile of the work we do and in turn, the people who draw on the services we provide. Those people, who we are privileged to work alongside every day, from those with a visual impairment, the Deaf or hard of hearing, deafblind, older people or disabled people who rely on community equipment and wheelchair services to get on with their lives. The raising of our profile helped us to better spread awareness of the need for greater accessibility and inclusion– ‘cause we are stronger together.
