Newham Chamber of Commerce held the third Annual Business Conference, on Thursday 11th July 2024 at the University of East London – University Square Stratford (USS) Campus.

Building on the success of Newham’s previous two business conferences in 2022 and 2023, this year’s event was bigger and better and included guest speaker presentations and informative panel discussions throughout the day. There was a range of exhibitors to visit and numerous opportunities for networking and sharing ideas. In case you missed it, copies of all the keynote speaker presentations can be accessed below.

THE CORE THEMES FOR EXPLORATION AT THIS YEAR’S CONFERENCE INCLUDED:

  • Culture
“Culture” plays a huge part in who we are and what we do and as Newham evolves as a fantastic place to live and work and as London shifts East, it’s fast becoming London’s newest cultural hub and a local, national and global visitor destination.

With nearly 150 languages spoken in the Borough, with new institutions like the Victoria & Albert Museum, Sadlers Wells and the BBC soon to open their doors in the Park and with the Mayor of London’s heavy investment in boosting the cultural and creative focus across the Royal Docks, our panel discusses the opportunities – and challenges – this presents for entrepreneurs and enterprises of all sizes, ages and sectors operating in Newham and across East London.
  • Commerce
Starting out or scaling up: tips for business growth.

The Commerce panel, chaired by David Woods from the British Business Bank, will focus on some of the key financial challenges that businesses face in these most competitive times. The key discussion points will focus on ways of accessing financial support at start up, to obtaining specialist support and advice from key agencies and how best to identify the key factors for effective accounting and monitoring of financial performance to help maintain and sustain business operations. The panel will also discuss avenues and opportunities to access further funding to support business growth and hold an interactive ‘question and answer’ session to help better understanding or address any specific questions that the audience may have.
  • Community
Businesses have a moral responsibility to operate in ways that protect the environment and contribute positively to the communities they serve. Join us for an insightful discussion featuring Newham Council on climate and sustainability initiatives, and hear from HMRC on corporate social responsibility and their efforts to support Newham residents. Discover how businesses can align their operations with ethical standards and make a meaningful impact on both the planet and society.
