This year’s theme will focus on business growth and scale-up with topics and discussions aligned to our new strategic five year plan, including: skills inclusion & talent, networking & advocacy, and partnerships & impact.
Building on the success of Newham’s previous four business conferences from 2022-2025, this year’s event is bigger and better and will include guest speaker & keynote presentations, workshops and informative discussions throughout the day. There will be a wide range of exhibitors for you to visit and numerous opportunities for networking and sharing ideas.

IN ATTENDANCE: The Mayor of Newham
Mayor Forhad Hussain was elected Mayor of Newham in May 2026. A lifelong Plaistow resident, he attended local schools before studying at Newham Sixth Form College (NewVic) and going on to read Aeronautical Engineering at Imperial College London. Mayor Hussain currently lives in Plaistow with his young family.
Mayor Hussain served as a Labour councillor for Plaistow North from 2010 to 2018, holding senior roles including Cabinet Member for Commercial Opportunities, Cabinet Member for Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour, and Chair of the Audit and Pensions Committee.
Alongside his public service career, which has included roles in the NHS, education and infrastructure, Mayor Hussain previously worked as a Principal Consultant helping to deliver the Lower Thames Crossing project.
An ECB Level 2 cricket coach, Mayor Hussain has supported grassroots cricket and community initiatives across east London through work with Essex County Cricket Club and the England and Wales Cricket Board Trust. As Mayor, he is focused on delivering cleaner and safer streets, improving housing services, supporting young people and families, and ensuring residents remain at the heart of decision-making across the borough.

Jermaine is an entrepreneur, healthcare leader, and business strategist with a strong track record of scaling organisations across the health, social care, and business sectors. As the Founder, Director, and Board Member of five growing companies — P2P Care Support, Our Missions UK, Oaklands Homes, I Say, and Calvin Ent — he has built a reputation for leadership, innovation, and sustainable business growth.
Jermaine has worked with some of the UK’s leading healthcare organisations, including Bupa, Spire Healthcare, and Nuffield Health, while successfully securing contracts through major NHS frameworks such as NHS Workforce Alliance, NHS Scotland, NHS Wales, and HealthTrust Europe.
Alongside running multiple businesses, he is passionate about helping smaller organisations grow by providing strategic advice, operational guidance, and practical insight into scaling successfully. Following his feature on a Netflix series, Jermaine’s mission has expanded to inspiring others to pursue entrepreneurship, build side hustles, and create additional streams of income to achieve greater financial independence.

SPEAKER: Azlina Bulmer
Taking Your Business Beyond Borders: Practical Strategies and Stories for International Success.
Director of International, Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW)
Azlina is the Director of International at the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). She has the overall responsibility of ICAEW’s international offices, activities and operations to ensure that ICAEW continues to provide a high-quality service to our members, students and stakeholders across the globe. In addition to international membership, Azlina’s portfolio includes international development and international government and stakeholder relations.
Azlina is also a member of the General Committee and the China Committee of the British Chamber of Commerce of Hong Kong. Most recently, Azlina was Managing Director and a member of the Board of Directors at the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), the professional body for the automotive sector. Previously she held the position of Executive Director of Membership & Engagement at the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) with responsibility for CII’s membership activities and engagement programmes in the UK and internationally. Prior to the CII, Azlina was the Director of International at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) where she set up the RIBA’s first international directorate in 2019 and led on the expansion of the RIBA’s operations and profiling in target markets in Middle East and China. She joined the RIBA in January 2016 as Head of Operations, Nations & Regions managing the operations of the RIBA’s 10 UK regions.
Azlina’s early career included public sector work in economic and community development which was followed by seven years working at a social investment bank. She has held a number of non-executive director roles including Associate Non-Executive Director of Harrogate District NHS Foundation Trust, Chair of Finance & Estate Committee at University College of Osteopathy and Chair of The Works UK.

SPEAKER: Dave Jones

With a background in banking, consultancy, and entrepreneurship, Dave brings a practical, people-focused approach to his role as a Business Funding Adviser. Specialising in debt finance, he’s passionate about helping businesses access the right capital in a complex and fast-moving market.
Dave’s career began with hands-on roles that shaped his strong communication skills, before moving into financial services with NatWest and Barclays. After running his own business, he joined UMi as a Business Growth Consultant and Project Manager, later stepping into his current role.
Today, Dave works with businesses ranging from pre-revenue startups to £100m turnover firms; helping them find funding solutions that support real, sustainable growth. He’s driven by the belief that great businesses deserve great finance, and works closely with clients to make that happen.
Beyond the office, Dave channels his energy into grassroots rugby. He’s Chair of Yarm Rugby Club, coaches the U10s, and leads the women’s team as Head Coach.
