Creating Opportunities for Adults with Learning Difficulties & Autism

We’re pleased once again to launch our annual Christmas Toy Appeal, donating safe and educational toys to vulnerable and disadvantaged Newham children. Working once again with Ambition, Aspire, Achieve, we will be aiming to provide each child referred with a Christmas stocking of new gifts, specific to their needs and wherever possible their most wished for gift to open on Christmas morning. Around 3,000 children are expected to be referred this year, reflecting the continued challenges and hardship so many families are facing in the area and we need Chamber Members and Non-Members help to support Newham’s most in need children, ensuring they have Christmas Day to remember.

This year’s event is kindly hosted by the incredible Links Support Solutions, a fabulous community support organisation who have recently expanded into Newham.

Links Support Solutions empowers young people with learning difficulties and autism to achieve their wishes and dreams while challenging the barriers that gets in their way.

LSS deliver with specialist skills and an abundance of compassion to provide the help needed offering everything from cycling and swimming to educational and craft activities.

Their specialist service team works with young people with significant levels of behaviour that challenges OCD and provides supported housing to friendship groups for young people with learning disabilities/Autism.

Importantly, LSS works in partnership with specialists that place adults with additional needs into jobs that they choose whilst also supporting employers in this challenging yet rewarding arena.

Newham Chamber are always proud to support these initiatives particularly as the Borough has one of the highest proportions of children in Inner London, with 25.1% of its residents under 18, our workforce for the future!
