Member Benefit: Fire Marshal Training for NCC Members

Fire Marshal Training – Friday 13th November 2026, 9.00am – 12.30pm (AM) or 1.30pm to 5.00pm (PM)

Thanks to our member organisation, Smarty Pants Nursery, NCC members are invited to book places on this course. There is limited availability, cost is £52.50 per person, and is only eligible for NCC members. Please confirm your NCC membership number when you book.

UK businesses are required to have adequate fire-safety arrangements based on the risks identified in their fire risk assessment.

For businesses in England and Wales, the main legislation is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. The responsible person must:

  • Carry out and regularly review a fire risk assessment.
  • Provide employees with appropriate fire-safety information, instruction and training.
  • Have appropriate arrangements for evacuation and emergencies.
  • Ensure that staff who have particular fire-safety responsibilities receive additional training. Government guidance specifically gives fire marshals/wardens as an example.

So does your business need a trained fire marshal?

It depends on your fire risk assessment. For example, a small, simple workplace with only a few employees may not necessarily need a formally designated fire marshal. Conversely, a larger workplace, premises with members of the public, multiple floors, vulnerable occupants, shift work, or higher fire risks may need designated wardens and sufficient cover.

Employers need to be able to demonstrate that their arrangements are adequate for their particular premises and risks

As, all employees need basic fire-safety training; having a trained fire marshal in your team who has attended additional comprehensive training will be an advantage for your business.

Having a trained Fire Marshal is recognised as good practice and demonstrates a proactive approach to staff and visitors.
